while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.
Purpose of life? who gives a rip. You create that according to your capacity. I just wanted my post to be #400. Maybe that's just as good a purpose as any other. I better hurry before someone beats me.

the subject was the relocation and dissolution of some congregations; it seems that this is the result of some project that has been going on for some time and is going to be implemented right now.. please let me know if this is happening all over the country?.

My family belongs to the east side of the San Fernando Valley area, but I stopped attending meetings years ago. My take is that attendance is lower now than five years ago when I was a regular at the weekend meeting. One thing I have noticed is that people jump from congregation to congregation more often. About half of the members, the hard core, rarely move. The others are there, testing the waters, for few months and then move.

30 million!!!, then they get a property 80 miles away (Norco) for quite possibly under a million. The brothers and sisters now have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in extra gasoline and car wear and tear to get to the cheap facility in Norco. Is there some benefit to society? None whatsoever; it's a waste of scarce resources that we should preserve for future generations, but the Watchtower profited handsomely. That's all they care.

Your pathetic! You have a chance to at least steer your brother away from the cult and you do nothing. Some brother you are. You could of at least steered him to places like this or other internet site about the bible and all its problems or jwfacts something. It's not good for Simon's website, but actually putting exJW-ness behind is a healthy path. In fact, in an effort to put an end to my own attachment to ex-jwness, I am getting a license to ride motorcycles, the classic type. I already own a Honda Shadow that I have never ridden. Who knows, I may graduate to a Harley. But your meetup may have failed for that reason. Many may not get that excited about JW talk.
i am of the opinion that the wt doctrine is influenced more by external factors that it is by internal ones.
one of the doctrines that has puzzled me for some time is the armageddon prediction of 1975. why would the wts make this prediction?

You are playing watchtower tricks by using extreme examples. Overall, percentages are more meaningful than absolute numbers. Slim has a good point.
I can play the same trick, but better. Actually, in this case is not even a trick: Killing 10 people in one day in a town of 100 people is far more shocking than killing 10 people in Mexico City (population over 20 million). It's 10 % versus .00005 %. Percentages here, as in most cases, are more relevant because they provide context; absolute numbers don't..

when i was shown what it is, i kind of got upset.
My take is that Christendom doesn't want to mention God's name because they are quite embarrassed by Him. Ministers and other religious leaders have read the bible thoroughly and concluded that it'd be best to keep their god's identity secret. JW's, on the other hand, are proud of their hateful and cruel Jehovah because they have developed quite a sick mind.
i have just read an interesting article by astrobiologist jacob haq-misra.. in this article he describes a process called "directed panspermia" as a plausible way that one form of intelligent design - one not related with religious driven agendas involving theism - could be involved in the process by which life developed on earth and possibly in other planets as well.. sounds like a speculation that's worth entertaining.

Really? It's like saying that there's a creator, but it's not God. Quite an oxymoron.
The very assumption in which it rests is obviously at odds with the biblical account of creation.
I suppose Asian religions creation accounts don't even merit mentioning. Are you assuming that only the religions of the book (Bible) can be classified as theistic? Quite arrogant to imply that, if there's a creator, it must be the one described in the Bible.
